Karunya University (formerly Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences) is fully-residential Christian private university located in Coimbatore. It was founded as a Christian minority institution by the late Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran and his son Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, Christian evangelists and founders of Jesus Calls Ministries, India.
In 1981, Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran embarked on the path to start a technical university. The Institute of Technology on 04th Oct 1986 as Karunya Institute of Technology by the late Arjun Singh, the former Human Resources and Development (HRD) Minister. The Institute was then affiliated to Bharathiar University in Coimbatore and functioned as a private self-financing engineering college. It was promoted by the Karunya Educational Trust. In 2004, the Institute was awarded university status in recognition of its academic excellence by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and subsequently, renamed as Karunya University under Sec-3 of the UGC Act 1956.
The University offers four-years B.Tech in the following disciplines:
1) Bio-informatics, 2) Biotechnology, 3) Civil Engineering, 4) Computer Science and Engineering, 5) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 6) Electronics and Communication Engineering, 7) Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, 8) Electronics and Media Technology, 9) Food Processing and Engineering, 10) Information Technology, 11) Mechanical Engineering, 12) Aerospace Engineering
Eligibility: The candidate should have passed the 12th Standard Exam in the first attempt with 60% marks aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
For B.Tech in Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Food Processing and Engineering, the candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in first attempt with 60% marks aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths/Biology/Zoology/Botany/Computer Science.
Age: The candidate should be below 21 years on the 1st of July of the year of admission
Selection: Admission is offered on the basis of the score achieved by the candidate in the Entrance Examination conducted by the University on all-India basis. See other All India Entrance tests
The exam is conducted at different centres across the country, namely in Kolkata, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Ranchi, Cochin, Guwahati, Anantapur and Rajahmundry.
For Tamil Nadu, there are centres at Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Chennai, Nagercoil, Tuticorin and Tirunelveli.
Application Forms: Application form along with prospectus can be obtained on the payment of requisite charges from Admissions Officer, Karunya University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Forms can also be downloaded from the University website and payment should be made at the time of submission through Demand Draft or online through Master Card, Credit Card or Visa Card.
Application forms along with prospectus are issued from the last week of January every year and should be submitted by the third week of April.
Entrance Examination is usually conducted in the last week of April.
