MAT: Getting prepared for getting corporate sector

Introduction:

One of the most popular career options these days is the management course, which many students are taking with enthusiasm. The people who are looking forward to shine in the corporate sector are choosing this course after completing their graduation. These courses are available in different fields ranging from marketing to logistics. But getting into the course is not that much easy. One has to go through an entrance exam before getting admission in a prestigious management school.

About exam:

One of the most common management entrance exams taken by the students is the Management Aptitude Test or MAT. This exam is held by the AIMA four times every year. Each year a large number of students take this exam. All India Management Association sets up this exam every year to select the deserving students. They score the students as per their competitiveness on different criteria and leave it to various business schools to choose the students on the basis of their performance. Students get percentile, and they get admission on the basis of this.

Specifications:

The first exam of the year is held in the month of May. All the students who are either graduates in any stream with a minimum of 50% marks or are appearing the final year of their graduation with a two year aggregate of 50% are eligible to appear in this exam. The people who are looking forward to the MAT exam 2014 should get prepared for the registration which nearing. The people who register will have to face a written exam, which includes the following sections:

  • Data interpretation
  • Language comprehension
  • Intelligence and critical reasoning
  • Indian and global environment.
  • Quantitative skills

For data interpretation and intelligence and critical reasoning sections, 30 minutes time is allotted while for mathematical skill 40 minutes are provided. For data interpretation, 35 minutes are allotted and for Indian and Global environment, 15 minute period is provided.

An aspirant will be given a total time of 150 minutes to complete this paper, which includes 200 questions. The other exams will take place in the month of September, December and February. For all the exams, the pattern is same. Each year a great number of applications are received by AIMA for this entrance exam.

When a person registers for the exam, he gets a prospectus of the exam containing the guidelines, and a booklet, which contains the list and description of all the business schools, which take in the score of this entrance exam. The cutoff for each school is different though. Many of the schools also consider the general knowledge score of the students, which is not included in the total score of the exam.

One can prefer an offline mode as well as online test. There are 22 different centers including various states and union territories, which have online test centers. For NRI students, Dubai and Singapore are also test centers for MAT test. Other instructions are updated on the website at time to time.
